From humble beginnings: The Hurunui Shearing Museum's journey
The Hurunui Shearing Museum came to be through a passion for preserving our unique past. What started as a collection of shearing memorabilia, mounted displays, and farming information has grown into a vibrant space dedicated to telling the story of this vital industry and its connection to our community.
The history of many of the Hurunui Stations from the early days of farming this area dating back to Motunau in 1847 Canterburys first big station and then later Glenmark and Horsley Down which took up most of the land between the Waipara and Hurunui Rivers.

The way wool was pressed in the late 1890's early 1900's
A 1901 shearers bicycle, the mode of transport used by many shearers to get from one shed to another, before this they either walked or rode a horse.
