The Blade Runner flat comb lifter, designed by a local shearer to leave a cover of wool on the sheep for protection and reduce shearing cuts for better animal welfare.

Wool wagons stopped outside the Weka Pass hotel in the 1870's. These wagons were carrying wool from the Northern stations of North Canterbury to North Port (Salt Water Creek ) or Kaiapoi for shipping .
